Drum and Dance Sessions

Under 5s Integrated Music & Drum Sessions 

Our Saturday practice sessions for children under 5 and for children who are disabled or who have special needs are held at the Chestnuts Community Hall in Highbury Grange, Highbury Park.
The session concentrates on playing and learning drum patterns, rhythms and language, participating in nursery rhymes as well as learning the alphabet, numbers and colours.  These sessions last for 30 minutes. They are attended by between 10-15 children weekly. Parents and carers also attend. 

The babies and children in this class continue to progress and develop until they reach the age of 5 years old or are able to comprehend the drum language in order to progress onto the Junior Drum and Dance sessions for 5-8 year olds also held on Saturdays.
Junior Drum and Dance Sessions 5-10 Year Old

We deliver these sought after sessions for children of this age group in order to develop their coordination, confidence and gain ability to work as a team by appearing in public performances.

These practice sessions for children aged 5-10 consists of a 30 minute drumming session followed by 60 minutes of learning dance movements and routines as well as allowing them to freely express and contribute to their own dance routines. 
These sessions are also held at the Chestnuts Community Hall in Highbury Grange, Highbury Barn. They are attended by between 8-12 children weekly. Parents/carers attend the drum session only if they wish and return after the dance session.

The children in this class will again continue to develop and progress until they reach the age of 11 years old to which they will progress to the Advanced Drum and Dance class which is held at 2pm - 4pm on Saturday
Advanced Drum and Dance Sessions for 10+ year olds 

Our advanced sessions for disadvantaged children and young people aged 10+ year olds of varying cultures, abilities/ disabilities and backgrounds are also held at The Chestnuts Community Centre from 2pm - 4pm. 
They are intensive physical practice sessions starting with a warm up and ending with a chat session. They are attended by between 20-30 children weekly who thoroughly enjoy the exhilarating activity and find companionship and a safe place to socialize. 

Parents/carers drop their children at the start of the session and return at the end of the session. Rehearsals for events and practice with the performance group is also done during these sessions

Learn How to Play the Piano

Children & Young People Piano Lessons for aged 8 - 16 yrs
We deliver these lessons while following the AQA Unit Award Scheme.

These lessons for children and young people aged 8-16 consists of either a 20 minute 1:1 lesson or 30 minute group lesson depending on attendees. Each student follows the Accredited AQA Unit Award Scheme Syllabus.
These sessions are also held at the Chestnuts Community Hall in Highbury Grange, Highbury Barn from 8.45am - 10.45am. They are attended by approximately 5 children weekly. Parents/carers wait for the children while they take their lesson.

Vocal Training and Singing Classes 

Children & Young People Piano Lessons for aged 8 - 16 yrs
We deliver these lessons while following the AQA Unit Award Scheme.

These sessions are delivered for children and young people aged 8-16 yrs. Each student follows the Accredited AQA Unit Award Scheme Syllabus. The sessions are also held at the Chestnuts Community Hall in Highbury Grange on Fridays from 6pm - 8pm and are attended by between 8 and 10 children and young people weekly. 
The children and young people aged between 8yrs and 19 yrs are also given the opportunity to experience singing in a real recording studio. This class also follows the Accredited Assessment & Qualification Alliance (AQA) Unit Award Scheme. 

Holiday Playscheme

Children and Young People aged 8 - 14 yrs
During the 6 week summer holidays, we deliver a 4 week summer arts playscheme consisting of structured activities including African drumming & dance, drama, steel pan and cooking workshops to children of all abilities/disabilities aged between 8 and 14yrs. 
Other activities include arts & crafts, creative arts as well as attending off-site activities. 

We also provide at least 2 day trips per week.

Performances and Opportunities

Children and Young People aged 8 - 14 yrs
During the year, the children are given the opportunity to perform and take part in varying events around the Borough of Islington and nationwide. 

We have performed at private functions from boat and birthday parties to council held events and festivals
